About us

Backyard Farms is something good to come from the bad of the 2020 Global Covid 19 lockdown.

Following a year running an emergency feeding scheme, Dom (our founder) started working with local community members to create localized, sustainable,  ‘agri-preneurial’ opportunities. This started with chilli farming and has since grown to include a full basket of crops.

Working with unemployed women from the communities and townships around the Western Cape of South Africa, a growing network of partners are being added to their program. Their harvests are purchased by BYF and used in a growing range of brands. The more sauce we sell, the more chillies we grow!

Our new ‘Family of Flavour’ includes partnerships and collaborations with some of South Africa’s favourite food brands including Flaming Thai and Clarkes Kitchen sauces and Oryx Desert Salt.  These partnerships are helping us to work with many new growing partners throughout the region. Our focus is on female run, community & small-holder farms, so please get in touch if you would like to be part of our team. Dom and Calista are running the day-to-day operations of Backyard Farms, with all of the images, videos and stories being captured by Anna from www.madeinmycamera.co.za - who also happens to be Dom's wife!

Our fabulous sauces are made in Cape Town by a team of passionate and talented chefs. We sell throughout South Africa and hope to start exporting soon.
